This photo was shot in Tacoma, WA on the way to school one morning. It was foggy so we were looking around for something neat covered in dew. Then my child on the other side of the gate on pipeline, looks at this web and I told her to hold still don't move. She was always a good listener, so she waited for me to pull out my canon rebel and I snapped probably about 10 shots. This one sparked something within me, like a story in wonderland. Fairytale like.Time
This was probably about 7:45 AM give or take a few minutes, something in my mind told me to bring my camera this day, and I didn't always take it depending on the rush to be out the door and how wet it was outside. Just damp on this day which was fine by me. I'd take a damp day over a soaking wet or windy and lightning kind of day.Lighting
This was natural lighting and cloud overcast and the sun has risen some but does not show itself. It kind of gave a gray effect, and if I did this in black and white I am not sure it would look right. The little bit of color in it adds a tone of artsy but muted enough to not scream to loudly. I love how rosy her cheeks are in this, and the red jacket was very suitable for a unique photo impromptu. Curiosity indeed caught.Equipment
Nothing super special was used, unless you call the photographer special then I'll take that for the answer. It was also my child who is a natural model for a subject I use every now and then when she lets me. It was our imagination together and free handed photographs as many of mine don't use a tripod. I probably should use one, but I myself find it hard to sit still for long in one place. I keep fidgeting and moving around looking for new angles and views and lighting and shadows and colors and framing the picture just the way I like it.Inspiration
Kind of like wonderland, and nightmares, I like things that are opposites together and odd pairings. This is what interests me, they tell unique stories and poems on their own. I can't always do it justice but I always take one more to be sure I got it and cross my fingers I did.Editing
I cannot recall if I did any editing in this photo, I think I just uploaded it because I wanted to share it with the VB community here and to inspire like minds. If I did edit at all it was very light editing at all, I may have crisped the details and removed some shadows and brightened it just a touch. I like to not over edit and keep things looking fairly natural unless there is a very unpleasant blemish then I will try to conceal that in my photographs for peace of mind. If it doesn't disappear the way I want it to, I crop it, if that doesn't fix it well it sits in my queue or I delete them.In my camera bag
A couple lenses when I want to do macro, or longer distance photos, and a portrait lens which I need to use more. I have some lens filter covers I need to play with as well. I more into just using what I have really quickly so I don't plan ahead really. I always keep a camera cover in the bag, and lens microfiber cloth, and the covers for the lens's.Feedback
Keep experimenting and have your kids available to listen well for your cues to photographing them and whatever nature provides for free as it is a gift to be able to have both dance together perfectly for a capture of a lifetime. This one is very much cherished.
