Location
This photograph was taken in Adelaide looking across the River Torrens to the Festival Centre Complex and the Torrens Bridge which connects the Adelaide Casino to the Adelaide sporting centre.Time
The photograph was taken at 11 PM on a night no moon to maximise the dark sky.Lighting
The contrast between the city lights and the night sky was achieved by choosing a cloudless night with no moon.Equipment
The new con D 90 ordered by a tripod. No additional lighting was required. A single shot with no HDR or panorama.Inspiration
At the time, the footbridge which sweeps across the photograph was a recent construction in Adelaide. On this particular night the olive green lighting from the provided an excellent link to the grass areas in front of the Festival Centre.Editing
There was minimal post processing required other than some slight enhancement of the vibrance of the night colours. In my camera bag
My photography bag always contains a number of cloth's to ensure that the lenses are clean and dust free together with a selection of additional polarising and ND filters to provide the most flexibility in determining how to complete the photographic composition.Feedback
This location included a significant number of street lights and pathway lights which could have interfered with the photograph. Very important to review whether any peripheral lighting is captured by the camera and reposition to avoid this light pollution. Do keep a lookout for pedestrians and aircraft and make a quick decision as to whether to delay the photograph to include the person or the blur of that person within the picture. It is common that swans, ducks and other animals may also disturb the water reflections so during the time exposure it is important to keep a lookout for whether these disturbances mean that you need to retake the photograph.
