Location
I took this photo at the Old City Park here in Mesquite. With it only being a few miles from my house, it's a good place to get out and practice, whether it be taking pictures of the wild ducks that live here, or the people who are enjoying time outside.Time
This photo was taken somewhere around noon. It was early March and the weather outside was just perfect! I spent the whole day out at the park and took hundreds of photos, but this one was the best of them all.Lighting
It was about noon and the lighting was pretty sharp, but there were just enough clouds to tone down the light long enough for this beautiful shot.Equipment
I was using my Canon PowerShot SX530 HS when I captured this shot.Inspiration
My main purpose at the park that day was to work on my photography skills. I had just bought my first good camera only 2 months before and was still learning how to use it. While I was at the park, I noticed this Mother Muscovy duck with at least ten ducklings. I spent most of my time photographing them when this one ducking climbed onto mama's back while after getting out of the water and fell asleep. After a few minutes, the mother laid her head on her back and also fell asleep. It was the most adorable thing I have ever seen a mother duck and baby do.Editing
I did not do anything for post-prosses, I feel like the original image is perfect enough! In my camera bag
At the time I took this picture I would keep my Canon PowerShot SX530 HS along with 3 charged batteries and a charger just in case. I also would carry my Targus TG-5060TR Tripod for those long exposures.Feedback
From what I have learned about capturing wildlife, whether it's in the city or in the wild, you have to have patience and a lot of it. You have to be willing to sit for hours to get that perfect shot and a lot of the times you won't get it. The best thing to do is to go to a local park or even a zoo or reserve and practice and continue to learn. Animals are especially unpredictable and its best to learn what you can about them.
