Location
This photo was taken at the Birch Aquarium in La Jolla, California. The aquarium is part of the Scripps Insititute of Oceanography at UCSD where they strive to educate on issues of ocean science.Time
I can not recall the time of day in which I captured this image. However, the beauty and mystery of our oceans can and should be experienced at any time of the day.Lighting
I love using natural light in all of my photography so this photo is a bit of an exception. The only light source present was overhead exhibit lighting and I am so happy I waited for the beautiful creature to swim through it, illuminating the wonderful textures and colors of the shell.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon 3100 with a 55mm lens.Inspiration
The ocean has always been a great interest of mine so I like to go to aquariums when I can in order to document the beauty of the animals and plant life. Until this photo I had never had an opportunity to capture a Sea Turlte before so when I rounded the corner and saw it, I knew it was my shot.Editing
I use Lightroom for all my post-processing needs. I did very little to this photo other then fixing the shadows and highlighting. In my camera bag
I am always looking to add new members to my camera bag! Currently it contains my Nikon 3100 and 3 lenses. A 18-55mm, 55-200mm and a 50mm.Feedback
In my experience dealing with animals, always be patience and wait for your shot. Take a moment to observe the nature and habits of the subject, get to know it. Animals will always give you something special, they see the world in a different way then we do, if you wait long enough for the opportunity, you will capture a part of that world forever.
