Behind The Lens

Location

In the vicinity of Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume, in the south of France.

Time

During the middle of the afternoon.

Lighting

It was a bright, sunny day, which meant that there was a variation between direct bright sunlight and shadowy areas from other small branches. In my view, this provided a better image than if the blossoms were just completely in bright sunlight.

Equipment

Canon EOS 70D with standard 18-55mm lens.

Inspiration

Both the beauty of the blossoms and the fact that it was still so early in the year, before the end of February.

Editing

Just a bit of cropping to fully centralise the blossoms.

In my camera bag

This same Canon EOS 70D with 18-55mm and 75-300mm lenses, + a screw-on macro lens and a 2x converter lens.

Feedback

I have found that when trying to get good close-ups of blossoms or flowers, there are surprisingly few that look really good and in near-perfect shape. So it is always worth looking carefully for the best presentations of whatever flower or blossom you are trying to take photos of.
