Location
Taken at Hellabrunn Zoo, in Munich, Germany.Time
Mid-afternoon.Lighting
Quite a bright day, but there are a lot of trees around the enclosure and so mostly only diffused light actually reaches the birds.Equipment
Canon EOS 70D with 75-300mm zoom lens. This shot was taken at full zoom to get the close-up of the birds' heads.Inspiration
There is a cafe with outdoor seating right alongside the flamingo enclosure and so it is always interesting to watch the flamingoes while enjoying a beverage! This was a rather special occasion with many newly-hatched youngsters of different sizes, with some flamingoes also still sitting on eggs. It was intriguing to see the youngster in the photo trying hard to get its mother to open up her mouth and provide some more food. After taking an initial shot (also in my Viewbug gallery), I was amazed that this scene just carried on, without either bird seeming to move, for some 15 minutes or so, but without the mother opening up, until finally the youngster gave up! Hence I took this second shot and made it more of a close-up.Editing
Just a bit of cropping. In my camera bag
This Canon EOS 70D with 18-55mm and 75-300mm lenses. I also have a screw-on macro lens. I generally take shots hand-held, but I also sometimes use a monopod for things like cricket shots.Feedback
In this case, only to keep an eye out for something that is not normally seen every day
