Behind The Lens

Location

I shot this photo of the Gazania flower I call my "Firework Flower" which was among a lot of other different flowers in bloom in the enclosed compound patio of my home at Parkside Senior Apartments in San Bernardino, California.

Time

I shot this photo in the Summer of 2015 at approximately 3:00 P.M. PDT.

Lighting

Just sunlight at the right angle.

Equipment

Handheld Canon SX160IS digital camera with a fixed Canon Zoom Lens 16X 5.0~80.0mm f/3.5~5.9

Inspiration

Flowers are among my favorite close-up shots, especially the most colorful ones.

Editing

No. I'm still in the process of learning the finer applications of digital photography.

In my camera bag

DIGITAL CAMERAS: Polaroid iE7276W digital camera with a fixed Polaroid Optics Optical 72X zoom lens and built-in electronic flash along with a tabletop tripod * Canon SX160IS digital camera * Apple iPhone5 and iPhone6 with their built-in digital cameras with which I have shot more pictures than with all the rest of my cameras. PLEASE NOTE: I am still learning digital photography as I have been a diehard film photo hobbyist since I was eight years old when my parents gave me my first camera, a "Happi-Time" film size 127 and I am now 78. FILM CAMERAS AND ACCESSORIES:: * 35mm Yashica FX-3 SLR camera with the following lenses: ALBINAR ADG MC Auto Zoom Macro f/3.5~4.8 and focal lengths from 35mm to 70mm * Auto DeJur f/2.8, Focal Length: 35mm wide-angle * Yashica Lens ML 50mm f/2 * ALBINAR ADG MC Auto Zoom Macro f/4.5~5.6, Focal Lengths from 80~200mm * Auto DeJur f.2.8, Focal Length: 135mm Telephoto * De Jur Auto Tele Converter 2X for Yashica and Contax Cameras * VIVITAR Auto 2000 Fixed-Flash-Angle Electronic Flash and VIVITAR Adjustable-Flash-Angle Electronic Flash 2000 Automatic * TSM SP Studio Systems Professional Flashmeter by PROLUX * Voigtlander Bessamatic 35mm SLR camera with a Voigtlander Color-Skopar f/2.8, Focal Length: 50mm * Asahi Pentax ME 35mm SLR camera with a Super-Takumar f/1.4, Focal Length: 50mm * Also close-up filters, 80A Color-Compensating Filter to convert Daylight Type film to Artificial Light * I also have a tripod along with a remote-shooting cable and a photoelectric cell to enable me to use two electronic flashguns simultaneously.

Feedback

Just make sure that the position of the Sun is correct for precise natural lighting under which flowers look so much better. I do not recommend shooting close-ups of flowers under cloudy skies or the use of flash or other types of artificial illumination.
