Behind The Lens

Location

I took the photo at the end of my driveway which faces the rising sun in the corn field across the street from me. A lot of the pictures I take are from around my home, I use home base as a learning stage.

Time

It was taken in early morning at sunrise. I woke early before sunrise so I could be ready when the sun peaked over the horizon.

Lighting

I used the natural morning light, no alterations or color enhancing. I shot facing the sun using the trees to block some of the bright light.

Equipment

A Nikon CoolPix S9300 was used, no tripod, just hand held. I used the cameras built in zoom with automatic settings.

Inspiration

I wanted to get some early morning sunrise shots and play with sun flares. I also tried to get silhouettes of some trees and play with the sun shining trough the branches, it was a morning of experimenting. The morning commuters driving by must’ve thought I was crazy taking pictures of the featureless field across the street.

Editing

I did not use any post processing, just the automatic camera settings and natural sun light.

In my camera bag

I usually carry just my camera which is a Canon point and shoot type which has auto, manual, portrait, sports settings, flash and zoom lens built in. This particular photo I used a pocket sized Nikon which also has similar features as the Canon. My camera case has polarizing lens, cables, extra batteries and SD cards.

Feedback

If you see a picture you like, try to reproduce it with one of your own shots. Make a photo shoot day or part of a day to try out new ideas, subjects, lighting and angles. We learn by trying and if at first you can’t get it, try another day. You don’t have to get it exactly, you’ll be surprised by the results. Lastly, have fun!
