Black-crowned Night-Heron perched on log in pond looking for food in Wychwood Pond - Toronto in the heat of summer in mid afternoon with the golden sun reflecting and warming the white feathers on this active Heron. Gorgeous Eyes. During the three days of photographing this bird over a couple of weeks from about 75 feet away - we were amazed at how much this Black-crowned Night-Heron ate - and over many hours a day. Like it's bretheren the Great Blue Heron it managed over 3 catches an hour with fish often one quarter the size of this bird - Beautiful to watch:
-Nycticorax nycticorax - This photo by my Son Robson Smith - and also his entry to GreenPeace 2016 calendar contest under 18 in wildlife category - this photo ranked in the top 12 most popular in over 700 entries. For more photos like this pleases visit our website at www.drsmithfoto.ca - Enjoy
