I took this photo on a family day out in Snowdonia, North wales. Being typical wales it was absolutely freezing cold, blowing a gale and the heavens openedTime
It was taken just after mid day, being a October day in Wales, the light was against us, we were high up in the mountains having a family day out, this wasn't planned, I just happened to capture this image of my eldest daughter.Lighting
The natural light was already dark and dreary and the rain added texture, again, I didn't set up for this image, I turned around and happened to capture it, completely off the cuff, so with regarding the lighting there is nothing specific that I have done, but it is all natural.Equipment
I shot this on the canon 6D using the sigma 35mm 1.4 art lens, no other equipment was involved.Inspiration
For me personally it captured a memory of how bloody cold it was that day in Wales. The image is of my eldest daughter Chloe, who is my muse. So no specific inspiration to take the image, it really was a lucky shot and completleyEditing
Not a great deal, i played with the shadows and highlights and made it a little more contrasty than I normally would... I wanted the processing to reflect the moment I captured it, dark, dreary and cold. I used lightroom for the post processing. In my camera bag
oooohh... I firstly pack my trusty canon 6d, then in goes my canon 50mm 1.4, I simply adore this lens for portraits, next in the sigma 35 Art, this gives me some added width in a tight space, i love how utterly crisp this is.. then the canon 85mm 1.8, again a go to favorite for portraits then the canon 70-200 for when I want to work from afar.Feedback
Wales is full of beauty, from the mountains in Snowdonia to the Horse Shoe Pass in Llangollen, be prepared for changeable weather, it can be sunny one minute and raining the next, my advice would be to entice your subject to have their back to the wind this way you will get the motion in the hair, as this was an impromptu shot, have your camera ready at all times, be sure not to miss a shot
