I took this photo in Wyoming at a ranch I was staying for an equine photography workshop. The horses live an excellent life at this ranch as they are really cared for, have wide open spaces to roam freely and are part of the family. The horses live in a herd and have known each other for years. There are true and deep friendship bonds between them. These two walked around together on the mountain range in Wyoming and I just loved their motion and softness in their eyes.Time
It was in the early morning when the horses were walking around on the mountain range. I chose to use overexposure to really highlight them both together and the softness in their whole being.Lighting
The early morning light in the mountains was beautiful and so were the surroundings. Still, I chose to highlight the horses because of their softness and stillness together.Equipment
Nikon D7000Inspiration
I love to observe horses and capture their spirits and souls in moments when they are who they are, without halters, without restrictions. Horses always inspire me. I also do equine facilitated work and the horses I work with are my partners in coaching sessions and trainings with people. Horses have such infinite wisdom and healing powers. It is an honor to observe them, work together with them and capture them as they are.Editing
I used Lightroom to enhance the overexposure and adjust the color a bit to let focus be on the horses entirely. In my camera bag
My Nikon D7000 and my different objectives / lenses. Nothing fancy. I always shoot in manual and just play around with light, exposure, shutter speed. I take photos coming from my heart, in the sense that I do not look really at settings or all technical details.Feedback
Observe, take it all in first with your eyes before you pick up your camera. Experience it first and take your moment to truly see what you are seeing. Then allow yourself to play around, look at the light, look at the shapes, exposure and then shoot. Do not overanalyze, do not get stuck on the idea of having to have the perfect shot. Allow yourself to mess up and to experiment. It is so much fun to play. Then take your time with editing the photos. Sometimes a photo that appears to be not special, can transform completely by doing some editing on it. Look beyond the obvious. HAVE FUN!
