On Monday morning I found myself driving out to Michigan for a presentation and workshop I hosted for the Festival of the Arts in Big Rapids, USA. It was a great success with everyone leaving with a smile and learning some new things about night photography. While passing through Barrie, Ontario, Canada I was lucky to catch some amazing light pillars. These are created from ice crystals in the air reflecting the light upwards and usually happening on really cold nights. These are rare in the area here but when they do show up I am so happy to see them. These ones were the best to date I have photographed! :D I had to pull over on the side road so I could stop and watch what way the crystals were moving so I could get to a good location. I noticed them going down towards the bay as there were not everywhere I needed to find something, anything to capture with them. Walking the path in the freezing cold, without proper cloths I kept going into deeper and deeper snow until finally finding some good locations. I captured many images of the pillars but this one was my favorite from the night. Thank you for viewing and feel free to share.
