Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken earlier this year (2016) at Edmonton Ice Castles in Hawreluk Park, Edmonton, AB.

Time

This was taken mid-afternoon at our booked time - only a certain number of people allowed in at any given time. The day was perfect - bright skies, lovely temperature with a light coat and the most amazing blues I've seen in a while!

Lighting

The lighting is all natural - even the darker part of the tunnels held an amazing amount of natural light.

Equipment

My only camera was used - a Canon Rebel t4i, no flash. I used a Sigma wide angle lens at 10 mm, 1/500 sec @ f 4.0 ISO 100.

Inspiration

The inspiration for this shot was purely the leading lines - one of my favourite things to photograph. They draw me in every time!

Editing

I shoot in RAW and always open up in Lightroom. No editing was needed on this one - the lighting was just perfect that day!

In my camera bag

I always take my Sigma wide angle 10-20 mm, Canon 50mm 1.4 and my Canon "pancake" lens (40 mm). Tripod always comes along on road trips but was not needed at all for the Ice Castles.

Feedback

I just keep shooting! I try every angle I can think of and sometimes change up the white balance just to see what happens.
