Location
I took this photo in my home town Lisboa. This is one of the most beautiful viewpoints of Lisbon and it's called "Portas do Sol" that means Sun Doors. From this viewpoint, it is possible to observe the Church of São Vicente de Fora, the National Pantheon, the Church of Santo Estêvão and all the typical Alfama district that extends through several narrow and winding streets up to the Tagus River.
Time
I made the photo at sunrise in order to get the best possible light. Also, at this time, streets are quieter and with less people.
Lighting
Lighting is always important in my photos and I study locations so that I can predict the best time for the best light. For me, sunrise is the winner situation for this place. If you have some luck, you can get really awesome colors in the sky that will reflect in the buildings making them standout. In this case I had that luck and got really nice warm colors.
Equipment
I used my Canon EOS 5D Mark II with a Canon EF17-40mm f/4L USM lens set to 17mm and a tripod.

Inspiration
I really love my city, and these viewpoints that i know very well, are truly inspirational on their own. Don't visit them without a camera because you will miss it :)
Editing
I shoot raw, so post-processing is required since the images always come very washed out from the camera. In this case, since I managed to balance my exposure correctly on the field, I didn't had to do much work except for enhancing some of the details. If you do most of the work in the field, editing is easier.
In my camera bag
It depends on what kind of subject I will be photographing.usually I carry my 17-40mm lens for wide shots, or my 70-200mm lens for close-ups or or tide shots. I also have a 24-105mm that is very useful as an all round lens. Since I also love street photography, I have a prime 50mm 1.4 lens for the job. It's small, light and fast. When shooting landscapes, seascapes or event cityscapes like this one, I also carry some filters for correcting the exposure.
Feedback
You must like this kind of photos and know the location very well. Know the light, the best time of day, and make a previous visit to check the best position to shoot. Arrive early since viewpoints often are commonly photographed and the sweat spot, might be taken by another photographer ;) If you fail to achieve the result you were looking after, try again until you get it. Passion and perseverance, is the secret.
