Behind The Lens

Location

It was taken in Downtown Nashville. Also known as Music City USA~ As well as the home of the Tennessee Titans and the late Steve McNair along with the late Rob Bironas~

Time

The night air was warm with clear skies making for the perfect setup to see the bright colors of the fireworks. Taken at 9:59 p.m.

Lighting

Being in Downtown with the city street lights along with, the lights from the symphony on the waterfront stage and, the lights from the boats below on the Cumberland river. It all came together and it was better than what I imagined it would be. F-stop F/7 Exposure time 4 sec. ISO speed ISO 100 Exposure bias 0 step Focal length 5 mm Max aperture 3.6 Metering mode Pattern Flash Mode No flash 35mm focal length 30

Equipment

I have a Nikon coolpix S8000 14.2 megapixels for stunning prints as large as 20 x 30 inches 10x wide-angle optical Zoom-NIKKOR ED glass lens; 3.0-inch VGA (921k-dot) Clear Color Display 720p HD movie recording at 30fps; HDMI output Creative Slider creates pictures, in camera, by simply adjusting brightness, vividness and color hue 4-way VR Image Stabilization System; Smart Portrait System; Subject Tracking I use a Targus 58" Camera and Camcorder Tripod, TGT-BK58T. This handy device is ideal to have around for stabilizing an awesome shot. Beginners and experts in photography can enjoy using this extendable tripod that can be adjusted according to their own personal needs. This camera accessory has many exceptional features that can help improve the outcome of your images. It includes a quick-release plate and leg locks, dual bubble level and a 5-pound load capacity. The Targus 58" tripod allows users to fit hot shoe on the level to their cameras for panoramic pictures. The tripod also allows you to tilt and swivel the camera freely so that you can capture photos from most any angle you wish.

Inspiration

I have always loved and in awe of fireworks since childhood . The colors were fascinating to me along with the tremendous sounds and echoes in the air. This photo and a couple more I have from this same show have been used by, News 2 abc; WKRN Nashville for the past two years for their cover stories of Celebrations around the Davidson county areas. This was an extra push to really learn more about photography~ Self taught just by messing around with my camera and using different settings to see what the outcome is. I still have a long way to go but, I enjoy taking my photos. It's my passion more now than ever before. Above all though God and My Family come first then my photography.

Editing

My firework photos I didn't use post-processing.

In my camera bag

All I have for now is my Coolpix S8000 camera, Targus Tripod 16GB SanDisk and my battery charger

Feedback

Get to the event early enough to set your gear up, check that your tripod is level. (I love my tripod with the levels built in). While at the same time make sure you have a great view where the fireworks are going to be going up. If you don't get to your place until after darkness, make sure you have a small flashlight so as to be able to check the levels if you have them. . My camera and I'm sure many have a specific setting for shooting fireworks. If not, when it gets dark look around, see if you can see fireworks off in a bit of a distance and focus on that, take test shots to make sure you are focused and ready. Good Luck and Have fun shooting~
