Location
It was taken on the south coast of NSW, Australia at a place called Coalcliff.Time
It was taken at sunrise on a beautiful overcast day, exactly how early morning photographers like itLighting
Lighting at that time of the morning with a cloud cover always produces lighting I love to shoot in. All shadows are eliminated and most highlights too.Equipment
Taken with a Nikon D700 and sigma 24-70 lensInspiration
I arrive at a sunrise beach scene and usually sit and watch the light and ocean motion, picking areas of interest. This particular scene caught my eye as the rushing in and out water splayed around the rocks.Editing
Processing this image and most of my beach scenes is a part I love to do. Adding contrast making the clouds moodier and enhancing the flow of the water movement by bringing out the highlights. In my camera bag

Be there early before the sun comes up, people assume a sunrise shoot means capturing the sun as it’s coming up. Most of my shots are taken before then.
