This is a great shot... there is a contest or challenge for repeating patterns that this would fit nicely into! :-)

One of the nicer shots I have seen in a little while. The repeating patterns are great. May I ask where this was taken?

Thank you very much! It's the Brown's Rowing Boats in Durham, UK. They are available to hire for a row along the River Wear. Guess that day they were not too busy :)

I’m a lover of boats and wood and these look as if they have just been lacquered! I could look at this photo constantly with enjoyment. Thanks for sharing your great effort, talent, skill, creativity, capture!

Location
Was visiting family in the UK and they were kind enough to drive me around and take me to some lovely places. This one was taken in Durham and these are the Brown's rowing boats which one can hire for a row along the River Wear.Time
Around 7.30pm on a quiet late August evening. The day was ending with some cool and calm evening light in the air.Lighting
As I tend to stick to natural lighting in most of my shots, this one was no different. It had rained shortly before this shot was taken and together with the fading light everything had a slightly blue-ish look to it anyway. This suited me perfectly and added to the blue in the water. And there was still plenty of light to make the boats pop.Equipment
My faithful Nikon D3000 with it's Nikkor AF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G DX VR lens at 36mm.Inspiration
I'm always trying to look for new angles and ways to get a slightly different result. I loved the boats on the river next to each other and had a great view over them from the bridge close by.Editing
Added some contrast and clarity and boosted the colours. Also slightly cropped the frame to make sure there was nothing visible of the dock on the left.In my camera bag
So far my modist but loyal Nikon D3000 body accompanied by its kit lens of 18-55mm 3.5-5.6. Also for these hard to reach shots I use my AF-S Nikkor 55-300mm 4.5-5.6. And my third all important one is a Nikkor 50mm 1.8 prime. Also in the bag there's a few UV filters to protect the lenses and a ND filter to mostly intensify my landscape shots. A gorillapod and a cleaning kit and extra memory cards to have that extra precious photo space if needed. Also as a new development a Canon EOS 5D MarkIII has joined the family. Along with Canon 24-105mm f/4 and a Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 lens.Feedback
Usually less is more but here I think more is more. What makes this photograph is the fact that there are so many of the same type of objects tightly in one frame. Also to add to it and emphasise the boats I tried to eliminate everything else from the frame. There is nothing left to distract the eye. The general scenery goes missing but that was not what I wanted to show in the first place. It was all about the boats.
