congratulations on your people's choice in stairs award. It is true that this staircase is a very popular subject at MOMA and you have captured it perfectly!

Behind The Lens

Location

Inside the Museum of Modern Art, New York. The MoMA is a work of art in itself (and to be honest, I found the building more interesting than the exhibits, Philistine that I am!)

Time

Afternoon. It was pouring with rain and this seemed a good place to seek some shelter.

Lighting

Nope. I was pretty much stuck with whatever MoMA gave me.

Equipment

Nikon D300 with Nikkor 18-70, handheld, no flash.

Inspiration

The wonderful play of shapes, offset by the human element.

Editing

Converted to B&W in Lightroom.

In my camera bag

I've still got the Nikon that I used for this shot, but only really use it now for photographing watersports (with a Sigma 150-500mm) or macro work (Sigma 105mm). For most of my work I've moved on to Fujifilm X mirrorless cameras. If I'm at home I'll have the X-T1 and X-T10 in my bag, along with 27mm, 18-135mm and 50-230mm Fujis, plus an 8mm Samyang. If I'm travelling, I'll just take the X-T10 and one or two lenses. Obviously the 18-135mm goes everywhere - the other one will depend on where I'm going and what I expect to photograph there! Always lots of batteries and SD cards in my bag as well.

Feedback

Get a Fuji X - you can really push the ISO and it makes handheld indoor shots so much better!
