I was on a whale watching tour with Mackay Whale Watching out of Port McNeill, British Columbia. This shot was taken in the Johnstone Strait.Time
This was about 10-10:30am PST, still very foggy.Lighting
The lighting was very challenging as it was grey and foggy. Most of us on board were having problems getting our cameras to focus on something besides the gloomy day.Equipment
Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL XTi on auto settingInspiration
I loved the mood with the fog and the whales together, so enchanting to be able to see their blows despite the fog. Nature speaks to my soul so I am completely in my element on an adventure like this.Editing
I adjusted the clarity and did a small crop to make the whales stand out more.In my camera bag
Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL XTi and a couple of UV filters. I am a very laid back photographer and rely on Mother Nature being kind and allowing me to take the shot. If it does not turn out then it was not meant to be.Feedback
Be Patient!! Try different angles, different zoom options and a tripod would be good - unfortunately I did not have one with me that day.
