Location
This photo was taken in the upper gallery section of a concert hall - it's in Johannesburg, South Africa. The hall is called "The Dome"Time
Probably around midday, I think. It was so dark in there, it was really hard to tell what time it was just by looking around.Lighting
The area where we took this photo was quite dim. There was this mesh-covered wall going around the top of the upper gallery, and there were these wall mounted little spot lamps that were about 10m apart. It created exactly the look I wanted - a concentrated wash of light from directly above and dimmed as it got closer to the floor.Equipment
All I used here was my trusty Nikon D750 and Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 VC lens comboInspiration
Everything just came together so well at that very moment. I saw the background, the wall, the lighting - looked over at the model and saw what she was wearing - the red just made such a nice subtle pop in that gloomEditing
Not much, to be honest. Just added some contrast, darkened the outer edges some more. Did some skin work and a touch of sharpening. In my camera bag
I only have a Nikon D750 and a Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 lens. I also pack a couple of triggers, along with a couple of flashes. Lots of batteries.Feedback
Keep a keen eye on your surroundings. Watch out for the light and how it plays with the shadows. Use a shallow depth of field to blur out nasty or boring backgrounds.
