I captured this image outside my workplace during a break. It is unusual for me not to be without a camera and having a work colleague that had just received delivery of this purebred Jack Russell pup I could not resist the urge to grab a couple of shots.Time
3.30 in the afternoonLighting
As the shots was captured on the whim, I only had the mid-afternoon light which as you can see was quite sufficient to isolate the subject matter from any distraction, whilst still allowing some idea of the surrounds.Equipment
The equipment used was only a Canon 6D with the Canon 24-105 f4 lens.Inspiration
The pup and owner were inseparable and I wanted to capture this, though I did not want to place to much emphasis on the details of the owner, the pup was much cuter :) I lay on the ground to be at eye level with Jackie, the pup and also to have the garden as a washed-out backdrop.Editing
I always shoot in RAW, processing 99% of the time in Lightroom, depending on light availability time processing is usually minimal, as was this shot. This image I dropped the highlights to the max and lifted the shadows slightly and pumped up the contrast, tweaks elsewhere.In my camera bag
Daily I carry either a Canon 6D, or 7Dii; and a lens that I choose for the day. I often go for a lunchtime walk from work and depending on the lens whether macro, wide-angle or telephoto I choose a particular subject matter.Feedback
I have pretty much explained how I got about capturing this image and I probably could have improved by utilising some form of flash, better still off-camera. However try to remember not to have background distractions, a shallow depth of field and get to eye-level to your subject, whether this requires squatting down or laying on the ground.
