Location
Not far from Redmond, Oregon in Terrebonne is Smith Rock State Park. I was visiting Redmond on business but managed to spare some time to hike the park for 2 days over a weekend. Is image was taken from the canyon rim.Time
I arrived before sunrise and this capture was made shortly after the sun came upLighting
At first light the clouds blocked he sun so I began my hike into he canyon. Just as I reached the floor, the sun broke through and the shadows started to move up the canyon walls. I turned around and sprinted up the trail to reach the rim in time for this shotEquipment
Shot with the Canon 5D Mark II, Canon 24-105 mm, f4, remote trigger, Flashpoint Carbon Fiber tripod, Manfroto ball headInspiration
I was totally in awe as the sun fell on Smith Rock, the shadows began to climb the walls and Smith Rock reflected in the Crooked River that flows in the bottom of the canyon. I loved the shadows of the trees on the canyon rim cast on the opposing walls like people viewing the beautiful scene.Editing
3 exposures merged in Photomatix then converted to black and white in Nik's Silver Effects ProIn my camera bag
Canon 7D, 7D MarkII, 5D Mark II, sigma 10-20mm, Canon 24-105mm, 70-200mm, polarizers for all, variable NDFeedback
Patience, Patience as seemingly poor conditions can turn for the better at any moment. Being prepared for that moment in time is everything
