Location
Image was taken in Mana Pools in Zimbabwe. It is the only National Park where you can actually get out of your vehicle and follow the animals on foot.Time
Late afternoon in 48 degrees celsius.Lighting
We were caught in the middle of a dust storm and had to try and hide behind trees. This had its own challenges regarding the equipment but it was a great experience. Dust and contact lenses are also not too friendly with each other.Equipment
Canon 7D mki with a Canon 300mm f/2.8. The camera was hand held.Inspiration
I love moody photos and the dust created the perfect surrounding. And the elephants just played along and walked into the storm.Editing
Very basic highlights and shadows. I added a touch of hdr but pulled the slider right back just to let the tonal ranges pop without fiddling with the mood. In competitions, judges tell me to push up the contrast. Hey, it is dust not low contrast. In my camera bag
Canon 7D mki and mkii, variety of lenses ranging from 10 to 400mm, flashes, filters...Feedback
Never give up. Try and try and try until you get it right. You need to like your images. You do it for yourself. Put some emotions into your work.
