Behind The Lens

Location

I was in Verona for a couple of days and this photo was taken at the train station, moments before the arrival of the train.

Time

We were going back home, so it was afternoon, I would say something between 3 and 4 pm.

Lighting

As always, natural light without flash or anything. In this case there is something that helped me with the "mood" of the photo: fog. A light veil of fog raised up from the railroad and created this misty and bright atmosphere that caught my eye.

Equipment

Only my NIKON D7000 and wide-angle lens (12-24 Nikon lens)

Inspiration

The moment. It was a traditional "I have to try take this..." sensation and apparently it worked out quite good. I truly believe that a lot of masterpieces are just the sum of luck, readiness and luck, again... This photo (even if not a masterpiece) is build on these elements.

Editing

A few. I enhanced the contrast between light and shadow, enhancing the "fog effect" to create a more undefined horizon.

In my camera bag

Nowadays just the Nikon d7000 with 12-24 Nikon lens, nothing more

Feedback

Well, railroads are often a good set for photos. Playing with the perspective and the repetitiveness of the scheme is something both easy and challenging (if you want to achieve something that stands out...) If you are in Italy, you can find a lot of old and almost unused railroads with old stations and nice settings (just look in google for something like "etna railroad" or "caselle railroad" and you will have a clue of what I'm saying. Anyway, the best advice I can come out with is: travel a lot and come to Italy!
