This photo was taken in a farm field by Blaine Lake, SK Canada in mid fall (very Chilli), it was my 1st photoshoot and as a self taught photographer I was nervous and excited, just starting to understand my camera... when I edited this picture the sky seemed dull as it was an overcast day, so I went out to chase skies and got this beautiful fall sunset by a town nearby, I was happy and eager to do my 1st photoshop edit. Not bad for a fist timer, I think!Time
I woke up that day at 4 am, the excitement was keeping me awake. I wanted to try my DSLR so bad.. so I texted my sister and asked her if I could do a photoshoot with my nephew.. she said: Go to sleep!... then at around 7 am she texted me back and said my nephew was excited to go.. without thinking twice got all my gear and picked him up.. we made it to this spot by 8:15 & we were done by 8:30 am.Lighting
I was so intimidated by lighting in photography and I did my research one of the most common advice, was to shoot early morning or late afternoon. This picture is before 8:30 am, and the sun was just starting to rise behind me as i was taking the shot.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon 5D Mark III F/4 Aperture 100 ISO 50mm lens.Inspiration
I love rugged antiques, it always makes me feel inspired by the craftsmanship, design and thoughtfulness of whoever made it or build it. When I saw this truck, it just took me to that era; I love the rust, broken glass and everything about it. I thought it would be the perfect place to do a portrait of my nephew.Editing
The original sky was very dull as it was early morning, I thought this sunset sky would be more engaging, I used layers and adjusted the saturation to give a richer feel.In my camera bag
I have two lenses I carry with me for photoshoots, Canon 24-105 mm IS and the Canon 100-400 mm IS, I love both of them. one for wide angle shots and one for close ups. My favourite is the 100-400 mm; the photo quality and bokeh is just dreamy.Feedback
Find places, things or artefacts that inspired you and let your imagination show you the way, don't get discourage by not having a perfect sky, you'll find them or they'll find you!
