The trees in Deadvlei are thought to be 900 years old. The camelthorn trees grew when Tsauchab River used to flood into the pan. Sand dunes eventually blocked the entrance to the pan, cutting off the river, and the trees died. The hot, dry climate has prevents the trees from decomposing.

I used a polarising filter and underexposed the photo in order to saturate the colours from the early morning light.
