while Shooting a wedding in Australia on the remote remote Moreton Island, I wanted to give the couple a unique to their wedding day ring shot! There were thousands of these soldier crabs at low tide, so I got my husband assistant to grab me two from the beach. I placed him on top of the ring ( don't worry there was no way he was scurring off with it ;) ) and everytime he tried to move I just blew on him and he froze in spot! then he was set free where we got him and we watched him scuttle away to the water :)

while shooting a wedding in Australia on the remote remote Moreton Island, I wanted to give the couple a unique to their wedding day ring shot! There were thousands of these soldier crabs at low tide, so I got my husband/assistant to grab me two from the beach. This was taken around 3 pm , just before complete low tide that day.Lighting
this was all natural light used in shooting this image. I found a nice shaded area on the deck of the little villa the bride was getting ready at. There was a leaf from her bouquet that had come off and I used that as a base to put the ring on and placed it in front of her bouquet of tropical pinks, purple and blue coloured flowers.Equipment
I used a sony A850 with the sony 100mm macro lens and very sturdy hands :)Inspiration
For me, when I shoot weddings I have to say the ring detail shots are my favourite. I look at the ring and think about all the emotion that has gone into the selection process of this particular ring. There are all sorts of emotions that people tend to forget about before the wedding even takes place and it all starts with the realization of you wanting to spend the rest of your life with someone and to choosing a ring that you want that represents the beauty of the love and bond you have with that person. This particular ring was a custom designed and made ring which used gold from the grooms fathers wedding ring who had passed away when the groom was young.Editing
I brought out the colour of the soldier crabs, they had a very vibrant purple and blue colouration to them! They are truly beautiful little things! In my camera bag
I am a Sony user. I LOVE my Sony :) I have my Sony a850 in my bag, as well as my sony A99 so while I am shooting weddings I never miss a shot in the seconds it takes to change lenses. I also have my sigma 70-200mm lens, my sony 85mm prime lens, my sony 100mm macro lens, my sony 20mm wide angle prime lense, and my sony 50 mm prime lens!Feedback
Always try to think outside of the box! But always remember when dealing with living animals and expensive jewelry to take the extra precautions to ensure the safety of not only the jewelry but of the animal involved. Always look for the unique and creative ways to make your details shots stand out, and if you can customize it to the location where the couple is getting married that is a bonus as well!
