Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at The Hopewell Rocks also known as The Flowerpots Rocks on the upper reaches of The Bay Of Fundy, Newbrunswick Canada .

Time

This was shot in the late afternoon

Lighting

The sun trying to shine through clouds added some nice drama to the sky .

Equipment

SonyA97 with a wide angle lens .

Inspiration

This was my first visit to the very famous spot . The Hopewell Rocks formations are caused by tidal erosion. They stand 40–70 feet tall.Due to the extreme tidal range of the Bay of Fundy, the base of the formations are covered in water twice a day but it is possible to view the formations from ground level at low tide. Seeing the sheer magnitude of these formations left me awe struck by how tiny you can feel in the natural world around us . You can see tiny specs on the ocean floor which are people and you can get a real good feel just how huge the rocks are and how high the tide comes up!

Editing

This was an HDR photograph , three seperate pictures at different exposures then merged into one

In my camera bag

I always have my two Sony DSLRs! I am a Sony girl and absolutely love their full frame cameras ! I also shoot a lot of portrait photography and have my 70-200 lens on hand as well as my 85mm. I also have my 100mm macro, my 50mm prime and my 24mm wide angle lens ! I also carry a little note in memory of a friend that says "Carpe Diem " which reminds me to enjoy the beauty and splendour of all that surrounds us and to photograph those views to the best of my ability.

Feedback

The best way to capture a similar photo would be to definitely visit the park about an hour before low tide ! That way you have plenty of time to explore the ocean floor and all the neat little nooks exposed when the tide is out. But I also suggest to go back at high tide to see the extreme change in the scenery when the tide is high! It's purely magnificent !
