Location
I took this photo at Dead Horse Point State Park in Utah, USA. The view was right below the overlook.Time
The photo was taken at sunset in winter about 4:50 pm.Lighting
That day the lighting was gorgeous. I got a nice day, sunny with clouds, which I think is ideal for sunset landscape shot. The view is facing south. Because it was in winter, the sun was setting in south, so I could frame the sun and the bend of Colorado River into one picture. If I was there in summer, the sun would have set in north, which means I wouldn't get the sun in my photo.Equipment
I used Nikon D750 with Sigma 24-70mm lens. I used 24mm focal length with f/11. The tripod I use is Benro MACH3 series.Inspiration
Dead Horse Point State Park is a beautiful park located near Canyonlands National Park in Utah. It provides unique canyon landscape for photographers. Standing at the view point of the park, Colorado River unfolds right in front of me.Editing
I captured five exposures to cover the entire dynamic range. So the post-work mostly was to blend these exposures into one picture. In my camera bag
Nikon D750 with Sigma 24-70mm attached. Tamron 70-200mm. ND filters. Extra batteries.Feedback
Get to the location early. Don't immediately set up the tripod, instead, walk around and try different compositions until you find the one you like best. Capture multiple exposures to cover the entire dynamic range so you can always choose which exposure to work with in post-processing.
