Morning when sunrise I took this photo. It was the first week of October when the Fall colors were coming out.Lighting
This photo was taken at sunrise when the first sunlight hit the top of the famous mountain Maroon Bells. Maroon Lake is a very popular destination for shooting Maroon Bells at sunrise. In order to find a position to shoot near the lake, a photographer probably needs to get there at least one hour and a half before sunrise.Equipment
Nikon D750. The tripod I used is Benro TMA28A Series 2 Mach3, no flash. I didn't use a remote shutter trigger because I usually use delayed mode.Inspiration
Maroon Bells is one of the most famous mountains in Colorado but I had never been there before. So I decided to go there in last Fall when Aspen turned into an amazing Autumn color. Also I wanted to capture the first sunlight hitting Maroon Bells.Editing
These photo is a combination of two exposures, one exposure for the mountain and the other exposure for the sky. I imported them into Lightroom first and did some initial adjustments in Lightroom such as temperature, black and white points. Then I jumped into photoshop and used luminosity masks to blend these two exposures together. The reflection was clear but I would like the mirror effect to be even stronger, so I flipped the top half of the photo and place on top of the bottom half and lowered opacity a little bit.In my camera bag

Timing is the key here since the first sunlight hitting the top of the mountain only lasts less than five minutes. The light condition changes fast so you need to get ready as early as you can. Take sample shots and adjust composition well before sunrise. If it is windy and the reflection is not clear, be patient and wait a little while to see if the wind dies down.
