Location
This photo has been taken along the river Trebbia, a small watercourse that originates on the ligurian Appennines and flows into the Po. The bridge in the foreground is called "the hunchback bridge" or "the devil's bridge", while the church in the background is the main cathedral of Bobbio.Time
I was here with my son Enrico at 17pm. He is a nice little boy, 5 years old and he is very fascinated by the stories that I stories that I invent for him. Knowing that the name of the overpass was "Devil's bridge" he wanted to hear more about it. So we walked on the bridge, stopping randomly to hear if there was any scream coming from the stones or if any monster was to come outside to fight us. At 19, when the sun was setting, I told him that probably the Devil had gone on holiday and we could safely take a shot of his bridge.Lighting
I wanted to get a good water flow but the real goal was to get the reddish part of the light bouncing on the waves.Equipment
I shot with my Nikon D600, with the 14-24 f2.8 lens. I have a Lee filter system 150 with a Big Stopper. All the equipment was mounted on a Gitzo tripod.Inspiration
This is a fairly known spot among photographers in the North of Italy. One minor reason is that, as you can see, the place is spectacular and scenografic. The real reason is that in this valley you can taste one of the best cuisines in our country!Editing
I edited three exposure of this shot to get a well balanced image, the hardest part was to raise the luminosity of the background town of Bobbio without unbalancing the entire picture. I also remember that the red in the sky was way more saturated in the real shot but that I choose to lower the saturation to keep a good equilibrium between the elements.In my camera bag
The less that I can, I am a lazy person. My system is quite heavy so the body + lens + filters + tripod is the only thing that I choose to bring with meFeedback
The best advice is to move your lazy ass and go outside. Maybe a rude encouragement but, in my case, it worked. If you see great shot of great outdoor photographers is mainly because those people wake up at 4 am to drive 2 hours to get the right light in the right place. A more specific advice while shooting this kind of pictures is to always be in backlight.
