Dogs speak to my heart. I love the expression of this photo and the ears are priceless.

What a great capture of light and detail on such a beautiful dog. Very well done.

Location
This photo was taken at my son's home in Trenton New Jersey. It was day after the puppy's arrived after a long trip from Kansas. Since I am a dog lover, I was so excited to have the opportunity to take some photographs of my beautiful grand-pup .Time
In late morning I went to my son's home armed with my Canon 40D and 70-200mmm 2.8 lIS II and I was ready to face any challenges from my grand-pup . Puppies are full of energy and playfulness, but they like to rest and recharge their batteries. This gave me an opportunity to see the puppy in a restful position, where I could take some closeups and also was able to capture different expressive characteristics of the puppy. My goal was to take as much of the eye and face as possible to give a more human appearance. I shot with manual settings which enabled me to have complete control of the scene. I set the ISO at 400, F stop 4 and shutter speed 1/25 hand held.Lighting
I could not ask for better lighting. It was soft and side-lit.Equipment
This was shot with Canon40D 70-200mm 2.8 IS II hand held.Inspiration
I love dogs! In this case I tried to capture, as much as possible, a human expression.Editing
I used Adobe Lr to tweak the photo and to give some vignetting. In my camera bag
I always carry two cameras: a Canon mark II and Canon 40D with a Canon 70-200mm 2.8 is II lens and a Canon 24-105mm lens, plus filters, extra batteries, a tripod, and cleaning materials.Feedback
Photographing a dog takes patience, a lot of behavioral observation and knowing ahead of time exactly what as a photographer we want to achieve. In this case I paid attention on ambient light, eyes, and face. As soon as the puppy decided to take a rest, I went down on the ground, focused the camera on her eyes and anything past the ears out of focus and took the shot.
