That's a good question, but for some reason I like Red Barns, especially the really old one!! like this one!

I sparked my own curiosity after I posted this and did some research. Apparently red was a popular color because orange wasn't lol. Old time farmers would treat the wood on their barns with linseed oil which had an orange tinge to it. They would add ferrous oxide to the linseed oil because it was cheap and changed the color to red, which they preferred over the orange.
