Location
This photo was taken outside Rugby, ND. While i was on my way visiting a friend on Christmas eve. It was an opportunity i couldn't afford to lose. And a reason why you always carry your camera with you.Time
It was a Christmas eve, very special evening for obvious reasons. Right around 4:30 while i was driving and spotted the atmospheric phenomenon ( the sundog) and i try to rush to make it outside the church, looking for the best angle and position for the best shot possible, as the sun was fading away so fast. But knowing it was a very unique opportunity.Lighting
The Atmospheric conditions, the contrast, with all the elements involved made it possible. Made the shot special.Equipment
I shot this particular scene with my Nikon D7100, and my 18-200 nikkor lens hand held. And nothing else was usedInspiration
When i spotted the sundog i stop on the side of the road for a couple shots. And then ...... like a lightning bolt the idea just stroke head. Immediately i start developing the whole idea of the vision i had. I got super excited and rushed to the location, i knew about the church but i had to do things fast before the sun went down completely. I wanted to make this shot Ethereal, and magical with the contrast of the low light, and the brightness of the sun illuminating the sundog. A beautiful experience that happen on Christmas eve, on December 25th of 2015.Editing
Like always or most of the time i used LR to to enhance the picture, and then i decided to bring it in photomatix pro, and back to LR for the last touches. In my camera bag
I been able to acquire a few pieces of equipment, my inseparable D7100 and with it the 18 -200 3.5- 5.6, 85mm 1.8, 50mm 1.8, a wide angle, a macro, my reliable gitzo tripod, extra batteries, different filters.Feedback
Sometimes opportunity just comes once, it is important to have your camera with you, to take full advantage of that particular opportunity when it gets in front of you. weather conditions play an important role in our lives, be aware of that, if you want to get that shot than you might get cold, you might get wet, etc. but this is why we love photography, Cause it give us the opportunity to capture a very special moment.
