Location
The days were getting shorter and shorter so I was scrambling to find the perfect location for this shot. As it turned out, the forest behind my house did it for me. It came out better than I imagined.Time
I took this photo back around Halloween. I was doing a surreal photo per day everyday for the 13 days leading up to Halloween. The sun was setting pretty early at that point so I was frantically trying to get this shot done before the sun set.Lighting
Cloudy days are always perfect for photography with a dark edge. The whole day had been beautiful but of course, just as I was setting up to shoot, the sun disappeared. It turned out to be a blessing.Equipment
I shot this with my Canon EOS 60D, my nifty fifty, a tripod, and a remote.Inspiration
I love halloween so much and it felt like I had to honor my favorite time of the year, so I shot this and 12 others images in a series that depicts different phobias. Mirrors are such a source of crazy superstitions, many of which I believe, so I just had to go for it. It turned out to be my very favorite.Editing
Haha, mirrors sure don't do that on their own! Other than the reflection, this image actually used a lot less post than most of my work. It was less elaborate so all I did was tweak the curves to make the color look my dynamic. In my camera bag
I've since upgraded - now I have my lovely Canon EOS 6D with my trusty Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8, though I always have my trusty Canon 50mm f/1.8, Canon 70-300mm f/4-5.6, and my flash.Feedback
The beauty of surreal photography is even if you break down every step, no two images will ever be alike. But the best thing to do is be patient and prepapre to take a lot of shots to get the perfect ones.
