Location
This photo was captured just outside of Polson, Montana by chance. I was working on a school project covering some of the bridges in western Montana. My process is what made this photo "by chance."Time
This photo is what I would call a happy accident. At the end of a three day, 800 mile road trip covering most of Sanders County trying to capture bridges, I turned around and saw this at the end of a very long day.Lighting
Clear skies and the sun at my back.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 70D with a 18-55mm kit lens. I did this to match my Canon Rebel 35mm due to the requirement of the coarse.Inspiration
The inspiration is not so much in the what I took the photo, or what I saw. The inspiration is more in the how. Photography is a way for me to refocus and slow down my thought process since getting out of the military. To do this I had to develop a new process, a new way at looking at the world. My inspiration is in the process of stopping and just looking at the subject, then try and walk around to gain another perspective. And here is the key to this photo, to then stop and turn around to see what I may have been missing. If I would have just stayed on topic, took my photos of the bridge, and then got back into the car to head home. I would have missed this. This photo is a reminder of that process and is still an inspiration for the next one.Editing
I was new to this camera and shot it in jpeg, and I think I could really only covert it into black and white. Up until this point I hadn't really used or understood Photoshop outside of cropping. In my camera bag
I tend to have a Canon 5D Mk3 with a 70-200mm 2.8 lens along with my 70D with a 24-70mm 2.8 lens. Depending on what I am doing, I may have 2 600EX-RT Speedlites and a transmitter.Feedback
Slow down, look around, and enjoy what is behind you.
