I'm still trying to figure out how you avoided taking a photo of the camera in the mirror.

Location
I took this photo in my office. I am always trying to think of new ways to capture images and reflections hold a particular fascination for me.Time
It was around noon when I took a break from working on my laptop. I took out my compact and had the idea of capturing a reflection in the small round mirror without the camera being in the photo.Lighting
The natural light is from the southeast in this room and there was also a small lamp with a 60 watt bulb and shade. I sat facing the lamp with my back to the window. Together the light sources provided the perfect amount of diffused available light.Equipment
This was shot on my iPhone 5s. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
I was inspired by the idea of selfies and how ubiquitous they have become today since many people now have a device with a camera with them everywhere they go. I wanted to capture something different than the usual angles that you see.Editing
I applied a black and white filter to the photo. In my camera bag
I always have my Nikon d500 with a 35mm Sigma Art lens as my go to. It goes with me everywhere I go along with my iPhone. If I am shooting an event or portraits on location, I take along my whole kit bag with a 35mm, two zooms, two external flash units and a soft box.Feedback
Try different angles. If you don't get the shot the first time, reposition your subject, yourself or even the objects your subject may be holding or surrounded by if possible. Hold the camera at a different angle. This shot was taken with the iPhone held behind and above my left shoulder. The rear facing camera was used as you lose quality with the front facing camera in my experience. I was looking at the wall ahead and not into the mirror. It is amazing how much a small shift in perspective can change a photograph.
