This photo was taken in the town of Locke, CA. Locke is the only town in the United States built exclusively by the Chinese for the Chinese in 1915. As you enter the town, the date could easily be 1940 or 1880. Sidewalks are wooden. Beautiful wooden buildings stand in defiance of time. Weathered… but not beaten. If you listen quietly, as the fog rolls in from the Sacramento River, and a cool mist covers the town.. you can almost hear the laughter from the old saloons and gambling parlors as people tried to forget the daily drudge.Time
This is probably my favorite image. I had just purchased a Olympus Pen Light E-PL5 and was anxious to try it out. I have lived in the Sacramento area for over 30 years and had not experience the beauty of the town of Locke, Ca. I arrived at Locke approximately 6:30 AM. I wanted to see the sunrise from this quaint little piece of history. The town was still in a deep slumber...no tourists lurking around. I started taking pictures like crazy. Never had I experienced such beautyLighting
I wanted to make this image as seen thru the eyes of a child....new and exciting. The morning dew had not yet dried on the flowers. It was an exciting time....Almost like going back in time a hundred years...MagicalEquipment
This was shot with an Olympus Pen-Light EPL-5.Inspiration
I had never visited the historic town of Locke, Ca and was interested to see the old wood town. I was looking at the town as a child would have seen it a hundred years ago. I was just looking around taking in all the beauty. I was drawn to an alley that looked interesting. I saw the bathtub and sign and just stood out I had to capture the moment.Editing
None neededIn my camera bag
I'm just getting started in photography and my ambition was to get into infra-red photography. I did some research and found that the Olympus cameras are easily converted to shoot in infra-red. I purchased an Olympus Pen Light EPL-5 and was impressed with the cameras ability to deal with low light conditions and no flash required. I found this very useful as I love to shoot pictures of stained-glass within churches. I love the Olympus camera so much that I have decided to put the conversion to infra-red on hold and just let the camera do what it was designed for. I usually carry a M.Zukio 17 mm and a Olympus lens 9mm fisheye.Feedback
The only advice I can offer is to let your imagination run wild and photograph anything that catches your eye. Do not be afraid to be childlike and enjoy the beauty of the world. Your picture maybe the next winner !!!
