wow that looks like the same spot that was featured on: the Elia Locardi Landscape Photography and Post-processing course. Were you there with them??

Sadly no I wasn't. But yes it's the exact same position :)

Beautiful photo, very nicely exposed and composed, though I might crop in on the right a little bit to just beyond the rocks on the lower right.

Behind The Lens

Location

Kirkjufell in Iceland. It's located on the northern side of the Snaefellsness peninsula.

Time

Close to sunset in October. Around 5-7pm.

Lighting

I did go for the typical sunset, but clouds were rolling in, so I got this soft natural light instead.

Equipment

I used my 5D mark3 and a 16-35mm f/2.8 lens. On a tripod with a 10-stop ND filter on top.

Inspiration

Alot of pictures of Kirkjufell and I just had to go to this place myself! It's an absolutely stunning location.

Editing

Yup, it's HDR made from three brackets, to balance the sky and ground. I did som colorcorrection and balancing of the rest of the clouds and cleaned up the picture for cars and other human-made stuff.

In my camera bag

After I got my 5D mark3 stolen and the insurance didn't cover I'm right now looking for something new and cheap. My backup camera is my Sony a6000. Else I have my Canon glass: 16-35mm f/4, 70-200mm f/2.8 and for nightscapes I have my 20mm f/1.4 from Sigma.

Feedback

Bring a good wide-angle, ND filters, tripod and keep returning until you get what you want.
