This photo is of an image in the1996 Native American Calendar, for the month of July. The original painting was made by Carol Theroux, the title of it is “Journey to Womanhood.” One of America's most admired painters of the Native American Indian, Carol Theroux is widely known for the sensitivity and authenticity of her work. Drawing inspiration from her own Cherokee heritage, she portrays the traditional values of Native American life, paying tribute to their noble past in her portraits, collectible plates, and Native American porcelain dolls.
