This little fellow was taken right in our yard. The hummingbirds return every year.Time
With birds you photograph them when they decide to show up : ). This shot was taken Sept. 8th 2015 at 10:30 am. It as taken in North East Georgia USA.Lighting
It was taken in all natural lighting mid afternoon. I used an 800 ISO which also let in a lot of the natural light.Equipment
I used my old faithful CANON Rebel T3i (Which I slap wore out now) I loved that camera. I used a Canon EF S55-250 zoom lens. I can't remember if I used a Tri-pod but I do quite often when shooting birds so I may have.Inspiration
Birds are inspiring themselves.. They are so much fun to watch, and have many different personalities. As you can see with this silly pose here. This pose is saying to the other hummingbirds that this is his territory. so beware. He is a young male Ruby throated hummingbird. You can tell by what birders call his five o'clock shadow. The spotted feathers under his chin. Soon all the feathers will be an iridescent red : ) The hummers only show up for a few months each year.I try to be ready for them.Editing
I try to do as little as possible. But yes most photos will need at least a small amount of processing to make it exactly like you seen it.To make it your own. You will be adjusting contrast, saturation, lighting, focus, sharpness etc. This shot here I was blessed, and not much had to be done. To me Photography is art.. I started calling it *Photoart* many years ago.In my camera bag
I pretty much photograph for the fun, and joy of it.To record history. I really don't have all the super expensive equipment. Nowadays I have my Canon Rebel T6i. I have 3 basic lens I carry with me most of the time. My Prime lens which is great for people shots. The standard lens that came with the camera., and a Zoom Lens EF 75-300mm which I use most often. I always have a lens pen for cleaning my lens. The pen is great because it keep the lens clean for a long time it resists dust and dirt.Feedback
If you are looking to photograph hummingbirds. You will need to draw them in with flowers, feeders, and water. It is very important to be consistent in cleaning the feeder, and supplying fresh food every 3 to 5 days, depending on the weather. They are actually friendly creatures, and will get used to you. Flying right over your head, or hovering right in front of your face as if to say hello. You will need patience, because they are fast little cutie patooties.. They are territorial they will return to the same spot over, and over again. If you locate the branch etc they like you can set up to wait for them, and you should get some stunning shots.
