Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in our yard. In N.E. Georgia. My husband & I live out in the country & we look forward to sights like this every year.

Time

It is always a thrill to find the tiger swallowtails visiting our yard. It's such a delight. When I see one I seize the moment. Grabbing my camera & getting right to it. It becomes a mini adventure.Taken in March on the 22nd of this year 2016. This shot is a mid afternoon shot 4:15 pm.

Lighting

The natural light at this time of day begins to cool off & not be so harsh as the mid day light.. though I would have followed one around the yard at any time. hehee!

Equipment

The camera I used was my old trusty CANON t3i with my EFS 55-250mm CANON zoom lens which I love. I also used a Tripod.

Inspiration

Photography to me is like gravity, It keeps me grounded. It is a part of me to my core. It's just the sheer enjoyment of it.. The challenge, the discovery, the sharing with others to maybe show them something that will make them smile,or give them some sort of inspiration, or wonderment....... I'm pretty much inspired daily by this amazing world we all share.

Editing

I shoot in raw format so some post-processing is pretty much always needed. Kind of like a digital dark room. With this shot after normal post-processing, I then cropped it, then used the colorize pen in my photo program to bring out more of the blue.

In my camera bag

In my camera gear bag, you'll find my CANON t3i,with the kit lens a EFS 18-55.. which I still use often. Also a CANON EF-50mm f/1.8 II prime lens.. which is fabulous for portrait photography. I just love taking photos of people especially casual natural shots. And my favorite lens which I use the most the EFS 55-250mm CANON zoom. You'll also find a lens-pen which is great for keeping the lens clean. I have some filters which I rarely use, a mini tripod, an off camera flash.. Really there is not much compared to most photographers. But what I have I am so grateful for, & believe me my little camera gets some serious use.

Feedback

A butterfly will many times return to the same exact spot to feed over & over. If you have spotted a butterfly keep calm, & stay in one place, most likely it will return. If you are new to photography you can use one of the presets like Action for a moving subject like a butterfly. You can also try your macro or close-up setting. After you have taken the photos & if you are happy with them you can look into the photos files & see exactly what setting the camera was set to & you can then start to try out in a manual mode with those settings. This photo is- f 5.6 exposure time 1/1600 sec. ISO was 320 250mm The main thing is to enjoy what you are doing, don't stress out, stick with it, & you will get the hang of it. The rewards are great.!!!
