I was taking macro photos of insects in the Colombian andean cloud forest at 1900 masl and found this beautiful and strange caterpillar of moth "Rhuda decepta", Then I photographed it for about an hour while it was walking on the twigs of a plant of family (melastomataceae). finally the caterpillar toured briefly this fern sprout Allowing me to take this photo.Time
It was a sunny day ... I remember when I took the picture passed the first days with rain after months of drought, I think that favored the activity of many insects such as spiders, butterflies, grasshoppers, bugs, beetles, among others.Lighting
Normally use flash for photos macro, it helps me to illuminate the scene as I close the aperture to increase depth of field, but in this particular photo I used natural light.Equipment
Camera Nikon D600; Quantaray NF AF 28-80mm 1: 3.5-5.6D Aspherical Lens (modified for macro) at 50mm; 1/250 sec at f/8; ISO 500; Not flash and hand-held.Inspiration
Well, I love nature and always want to show their beauty through my photos with the intention to inspire people to preserve it.Editing
I applied basic adjustments in "Color Balance", "levels", "Shadows / Highlights", "brightness / contrast", "vibrance" and "Match Color". Finally unsharp masking using "High Pass" tool "reduce noise".In my camera bag
I use a Nikon D600 and as a nature photographer can not miss in my bag a telephoto and a macro lens, I load a 80-400 zoom and a 105mm micro, plus a flash, a tripod, elements of camouflage and plastic to put on the floor when I have to take pictures at ground level. Some additional elements would be a wide-angle lens (18-35mm) a neutral density filter and extra batteries.Feedback
My advice is to always have a lot of patience, taking the time to analyze the animal's behavior to predict their next move. additionally, not handling or captured animals in order to get a picture, if we respect nature, It will reward us with wonderful moments.
