This photo was shot on my trip of a lifetime to New York in 2010. I make my living in the performing arts so my dream was to experience Broadway. Pictures tell stories and this picture spoke to me of everything Broadway. The sign, the colours, the busyness of the photo IS the story of Manhattan.Time
This picture was taken in the bright morning light on my first day in New York. I wanted to capture the sense of wandering through Manhattan for the first time and being absorbed by the sights and sounds of the bustling city.Lighting
There was nothing particular about the lighting in this photo. It was mid-morning on a bright sunny day with a nice even light on the scene I was shooting.Equipment
This was shot with a Pentax K200D using a Sigma AF 18-125mm F 3.5-5.6 lens. It was shot at ISO 200, 108mm f/8 1/125. Held freehand while I was shaking with excitement at the thought of my actually being in New York!Inspiration
The street sign was the actual inspiration for the shot. Nothing spoke to me more clearly about where I was on this great big earth.Editing
This photo was taken early in my passion for photography. I had not yet gotten into post processing and was still shooting jpg so this is straight out of the camera. In my camera bag
My Pentax has long since retired so I have moved on to shooting with a Canon T5i. I have fallen victim to the camera collector virus so I certainly have to be choosy when I head out to the field to shoot. My go to lenses are my kit 18-55 and my Canon EF70-300. A tripod is a must and I learned it was an investment that can't be underrated. I invested in a light weight Carbon Fibre Tripod that is strong as an ox and light as a feather.Feedback
My best advice is to shot where your passion is. This shot worked because I was passionate about where I was and what I was shooting. It is important to shoot out of your comfort zone to build your skills but always go back to what brings you joy. That's why your shooting after all!
