Location
This photo was taken from one of Port Nelsons main fishing trawlers wharfs looking over to Talleys fish factory wharf's with 2 of Talleys fishing trawlers & a independant fishing trawler.Time
I took this photo in the evening at the blue hour which was just after sunset at 7:50 pm. Which gives this photo the colours I love. One of the best times in the day for taking photos.Lighting
All natural apart from the light from the wharf, trawlers & fish factory. The Blue Hour is One of the best times in the day for taking photos either morning or evening. In the morning Blue Hour is just before the sun rises above the horizon (about 40 min before) & Blue Hour in evening at about 40 min after sunset.Equipment
The camera I used was my old Canon EOS 600D on a tripod & used a RC-6 wireless remoteInspiration
My inspiration is I'm really into maritime photography at the moment & one of my favourite ships is Capt M.J.Souza which is in this photo. Also the lighting this evening was so nice with all the colours.Editing
I only ever do minimal post processing. I have photoshop Elements 11 & used for this photo enhance auto levels of contrast, color correction & lighten shadows & darken highlights. In my camera bag
I normally have in my bag these days ( I've up graded from my EOS 600D to the 5D MKll) of gear, now I have 2 x Canon EOS 5D Mark 2 bodies, lenses a Tamron 28mm - 300mm & a Tamron 150mm - 600mm, a wireless remote which come in very handy & gets used a lot, ND & ND graduated filters, a small torch, and some cleaning gear.Feedback
Night photography can very rewarding. Scout out different spots to take these photos but if doesn't work out try again until you are happy with the shot. When using a tripod & doing long exposure's always turn of the image stabilization, I learnt this a couple of years ago after going out on a night shoot & came back with all my photo's out of focus & took me a while to find out why. Always use a tripod & a remote. Have fun playing around with exposure's this is the way I learnt. Happy shooting everyone.
