I took this photo in Shelburne Falls,MA at The Bridge of Flowers. It's a beautiful bridge with flowers, literally. The community there takes donations to plants, take care of and educate people on the many types of flowers.Time
I remember walking around 3pm that day and taking photos of all the beautiful flowers. This one really caught my eye on how the sun was hitting it just right. Honestly, with the clouds hitting right on time, it made the photo perfect.Lighting
Sometimes, natural lighting especially during 3pm can be bad, or good. If you play it well and have a lot of patience. Luckily, if you know how to have patience, you can hit the lighting naturally, or with a little help! I remembered not liking how it came out with the speed flash, so I had taken it off and decided to rely strictly on natural lighting. The way it bounced off the petals, was what convinced me I made the right decision.Equipment
I used a Canon t3, with a 55-250mm Canon Telephoto lens.Inspiration
Honestly, I was in a funk. I felt like I needed to go outside and see if I could just take some nice photos and play with new techniques. Flowers are always photogenic, the never fail to pose for you, nor are they ever asking for too much. Floral photography is something I love, along with landscape photography. The flower inspired me by being there and calling out to me.Editing
I used light room 5! I had fixed some lighting, along the background, removed a little bit of noise and made sure it was sharp but not too sharp. I also had changed the contrast just enough so I could see the colors pop. Not much had to be done.In my camera bag
Sometimes I over pack.. I mean..I am very indecisive and I find myself a lot of the times when I leave my telephoto lens ( 55-250mm Canon ) behind, I'll need them for some distance shooting. I also now have a newer camera, so the T3 is no more, neither in my 40D. I switched to a T6S , decided that smaller would work best for me. Sure any person can get a fancy mark series canon and one day I would love to, but I don't have that type of money and being a college student, that canon is far from my reach. Anyway, it isn't about the body, its about the glass, technique , skill, and talent. I have many other lenses but switching from the 18-135mm lens, or the 50mm ( or 55mm ) lens is a lot of work. I try to pack what I can and go with it. Chances are, telephoto is my main equipment along with a basic 18-135mm.Feedback
Angles are your best friend! Don't stand straight, do not hold the lens or camera wrong, try bending your knees a bit, arch your back, do a crazy pose, but make sure it also balances you. You know those memes of photographers doing crazy poses in their shoots? Remember seeing their finished product and asking yourself, 'holy cow how did they managed to do that?' well they hung upside down, near death, probably signed their will and told their assistants to catch the camera first, and let them fall to their death. Ok, not saying literally get yourself in danger, haha! But you get the jist! Practice angles, practice balancing your camera to reduce shaking, practice lighting, if something looks to bright would you changing the iso make it better? Would you need a light or nah? Maybe you need a color card? Practice! I know this isnt too specific, but I hope it helps!
