Behind The Lens

Location

This Photograph was taken at Lake Alice, Wisconsin (near Tomahawk, WI.) in the early spring. The trees were just beginning to bud. For this prospective, I was actually standing on another doc that was jutting out into the water.

Time

My husband and I lived in a small cabin just to the right of this photo from early spring until mid summer, while we were helping a friend convert an old farmhouse into a log cabin. Just after first light, I looked out of the window and saw the thick fog covering the entire area. I grabbed my camera and went out in the quiet and took shot after shot, thoroughly enjoying the solitude of the foggy morning. By the time I took this particular photograph the fog had dissipated enough to allow the reflection of the tree to be seen in the smooth water.

Lighting

I wanted this image to reflect (no pun intended!) the quietness and solitude of the morning mist.

Equipment

I used my Nikon D60 for this shot.

Inspiration

I was inspired to take this photo by the changing light of the early morning and how seeing familiar scenery or objects through the morning mist changed my prospective on them.

Editing

The only post-processing done on this image was to crop the original image and set it to black and white.

In my camera bag

My camera, of course, extra batteries and just a couple of simple lenses. I am fairly new to photography and at this point in time, I don't have a lot of fancy equipment. I'm concentrating on shooting anything and everything that catches my eye, and hopefully getting the shot that is pleasing to the eye but also shows the subject from my point of view.

Feedback

I think the best advice I would offer for someone else trying to capture something similar is to recognize the differences in nature, whether it be a misty calm morning, or a bright beautiful sunrise..and shoot photos from many angles. Crouch down low, stand a little higher on something, or find different ways to "see" the object in different ways.
