Behind The Lens

Location

This is one of my favorite photographs due to three things. The simplicity of the subject, the symmetry of the subject, and the combination of colors in a totally natural environment. This photo was taken in the backyard garden of a neighbor in a small town in Western Iowa. Her flower garden was along an old fence line that delineated her property from the town park.

Time

With camera in hand, I was observing "Mother Nature" in the the close-knit small town neighborhood on a late summer afternoon when I noticed the butterflies visiting the lilies in my neighbors garden.

Lighting

The sun was not directly overhead, but somewhat low in the summer sky, offering the diffuse light that seems to soften everything it touches.

Equipment

I used my Nikon D-60 without a tripod, or flash.

Inspiration

I enjoy taking photographs of "ordinary" thiings that most people take for granted.

Editing

The only post-processing done on this image was done by using the free Picassa ap. I most likely made it a little darker and cropped it.

In my camera bag

When wandering the neighborhood, I take my camera and the lens that is currently attached to it.

Feedback

The advise I would give to someone else who is trying to capture something similar is to practice noticing the beauty in the ordinary and to carry your camera with you when you are enjoying the outside!
