Location
Just about the coast of Spain, to be more accurate in Costa de Sol in Fuengirola Malaga. This is located in the south part region of the map of Spain.Time
The moment that I wanted to capture it had happened the day before. My determination and pure luck to see the actual owner still anchored it was pure luck. Imagine waking up to this golden orange moment. The actual time of this moment is April 12 of 2013 at 746:48 am European time. On my early morning walk on the Costa del Sol in Fuengirola, Malaga Spain.Lighting
It seem as if the light of the sun was a bit different in the Mediterranean sea. So I decided not to take any chances. My decision was instant and decided to use a filter and a bit of work with the F stops too and speed of 100. The main reason I used a filter of neutral was to add an extra orange color to the moment and made my F stop F/11. Almost forgot that I had added an Exposure Comp. of -1.0. A dark look and deep concentration on the waves as to make the feeling of a boat sailing away...Equipment
The camera that I used (still in use) is a Nikon 3000 with only 11 megapixels. The lenses that I used on this moment is a Tamron AF 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 TELE-MACRO (1:2). But I did use a Neutral Glass filter HD II Neutral Density 4x ND4 by Opteka. Very simple equipment for easy carry every on the go.Inspiration
The moment that inspired me to capture this ... It must of been my morning walks that I love to take when not working. The morning prior to this great capture it was priceless. My decision to take a walk plus my camera close at hand was ultimate. I needed to take this for my collection. As I was walking on my regular morning sunrise I really got inspired when I saw a boat. My eyes where wide open to the view and in mind the song of Styx , sail away! This is part of where the name comes into a bit of influence plus the feeling of sailing into the sun.Editing
About the post processing... It would be hard and a bit confusing to explain. But it was minimal with a RAW file. The orange is natural with the neutral filter. The detail of the waves where just touched up to be a little more detail with photoshop LR. The sun I did not correct. If we are to look close at the mast it has about a third of a sun glare that comes from me and the use of a filter. Detail of waves processing. Gave a little detail to full moment. Very minimal processing. In my camera bag
About what equipment might be found in my backpack. It only consist of a few items. My camera which is a Nikon 3000. Just two lenses back in 2013, the regular lenses that come with kit nikkor 18--55mm 1:3, 5.6G. The other lense is a Tamron af 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 Tele Macro (1:2). Plus and array of filters from Opteka. Filters from Polarization, Day FLD, Neutral Density and yes UV. I never leave with out my Opteka 10X, 4X, 2X magnifying lenses for my Macros! Now in 2016 I have added more lenses a 180 degree fish eye and a normal standard 50mm lenses.Feedback
I love to give advise on my moment. The main factor of this moment was the weather. It was beautiful for three weeks. Due plan ahead by walking the beach, favorite spot, be aware of where to take a picture and factor the sun where it rises. The best time to travel to Spain and enjoy a great time is in April Holly week in all of Spain. It will help if you would bring extra memory cards since I took this moment more than enough times. Make sure you have and know how to add a filter to some lenses out there, since there is a lot of moments that can be great or missed. Due remember not to look to long at the sun or do not even look straight at the sun. The safer you are the better. So if needed just focus, close your eye, hear the beep of full focus sound, press the shutter and please use a tripod if you can not hold a steady hand or camera. But the only thing that you have to remember about sunrises is where to set up for the best shot.
