Behind The Lens

Location

It was taken in Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, Felton, CA. My wife and I spent two days camping here and one full day among the giants!

Time

It must have been around 9 AM. The morning light was coming in at an angel. This would have been a completely different shot at midday with the light coming straight down.

Lighting

I used no flash as to get the natural light inside the trunk of the tree looking out.

Equipment

I'm an amateur so nothing fancy, just my iPhone 5.

Inspiration

I'm always looking for unique shots from different perspectives and this one had my name written all over it! The peeking out from inside the tree trunk just felt right. And the shape of the opening was just right too!

Editing

No.

In my camera bag

Again, just an armature, so just my smart phone.

Feedback

Always, always have an open mind to look for a shot in an unusual way, from an unusual perspective or an unusual angel. And pay attention to how the natural lighting is or isn't there, but always shot it with and without flash and see what works.
